Identity Construction and State Loyalties of Otmar Babić

This paper provides a study case of the First World War Croatian Major General Otmar Babić. It investigates post-First national identity construction and shifting state loyalties this Austro-Hungarian high-ranking military official in three different regimes: Monarchy, Kingdom Serbs, Croats, Slovenes / Yugoslavia, Independent State Croatia. In view limited scope paper, presented preliminary findings are narrowly focused on text – Babić’s statements various types narrations. His personal records treated as narrations that belong to historization warfare experience history from below. Therefore, micro-level sociological has analyzed developed discourse discursive practices reflected correspondence between Babić institutions, his private, more intimate, writings expressed poetry. Babic’s have been social representations about impact life. Foucauldian analysis applied methodology therefore, enabled do qualitative research into nature regimes, well after when he was retired. subjective account past post-war life represents source perspective true testimony long lost cultural memory.
